What sparked your interest in health technology?

I’m passionate about leveraging technology to make a positive impact on people's lives. I believe that health technology has the ability to offer innovative solutions to complex health challenges, enhance patient care, and bridge gaps in healthcare access.

My commitment to bridging gaps in healthcare access has been a driving force since my undergrad and grad years where I studied public health. I firmly believe that socio-economic status should not determine the quality of care one receives. Digital health solutions, by their very nature, can play a pivotal role in addressing and overcoming these disparities, ensuring that everyone has equitable access to healthcare resources and services.

What is a challenge that you see in your industry?

I’d love to see more vulnerability in my field. Imposter syndrome is a biggie in the engineering world, which is why I think it’s important to be open about it if you are experiencing it! I’ve learned that even the most advanced engineers struggle with imposter syndrome. The sooner that you embrace that this is completely normal, the sooner that you will be able to grow as an engineer.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to pursue a similar career path?

Your engineering skills will improve over time with practice and dedication, but do not forget about working on your soft-skills! You will be collaborating a lot throughout your career. Be the engineer that you’d like to work with. Practice honesty, empathy, and good communication.

Why did you decide to join Lasa Health?

I’ve experienced severe pelvic pain for many years and am familiar with the feeling of not being heard or understood when I try to explain my pain to others. I know what it’s like to experience horrible pain and wait in emergency rooms for hours, only to be sent home with an Ibuprofen. I am excited about the opportunity to be able to help people feel that their experiences are valid and important, and contribute to a platform that helps to educate about endometriosis.

Who are three inspirational women in your industry that you admire?

Alexandra Kroenert - Software Engineer at Vitala Global Foundation

Joan Fleischman MD - Femhealth leader
